Waiting on Wednesday: A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab

Waiting on Wed banner

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme by Breaking the Spine where book bloggers share new releases we are excited for. Today I am waiting on A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab.

Why I’m Waiting: Upon finding it on Goodreads I learned that V. E. Schwab is also noted for another critically acclaimed book called Vicious. I’ve never read it before but I’m really excited for his new book after reading the synopsis. AND CHECK OUT THAT BEAUTIFUL COVER!!!! The art design is nothing that I’ve seen before.

A Darker Shade final for Irene

Here’s the synopsis and tell me you’re not as psyched about this book like I am!

Kell is a magician and one of the last Travelers. He has the ability to travel between worlds that are parallel to each other. There’s Grey London, a non-magical world that is grey and dull and ruled by the mad King George. Red London where life and magic are revered. White London ruled by a tyrannous leader and where people fight to control magic, and magic fights back. And then there is Black London but no longer spoken by anyone anymore.

Kell is a Red Traveler, personal ambassador, and adopted Prince of Red London. His only job was to carry correspondences between the royals of each London, but Kell is also a smuggler who gets paid by people wanting to learn about a world they can never see. Soon Kell is caught and accused of treason. Fleeing from Red London Kell meets Delilah Bard who saves him from a dangerous enemy and in return, Kell takes her into another world.

But there’s dark magic lurking somewhere and Kell and Lila must stay alive to save all the worlds, which becomes very tricky.

So there you have it! A story with magic, adventure, cross between worlds, and London, and I expect there will be some world building since we are introduced to a lot of parallel universes. I honestly can’t wait for the book to come out as I never read a story that involves the character crossing over different universes, so this should be really exciting!

You can pre-order A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab on Chapters Indigo and Amazon, and the book comes out on February 24.

What book are you waiting for this month?
