Freebie Week: Books that are on the Bottom of my TBR

Top Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the Broke and the Bookish and this week’s topic is a freebie! That means that those who are participating this week get to choose their own topic, something that we wish was on the official list. My choice this week is books that are on the bottom of my TBR. I’m pretty sure I haven’t done this topic before as I checked twice, and there are a lot of books that are on the bottom of my reading pile for over a year now that I like to share.

Who doesn’t love buying a bargain book for only $5 at Chapters Indigo? Or finding a second hand book for only half off and in a good selling condition? Everyone does! And if you’re like me, you probably like doing a post every month about your recent book haul because you’re just too excited to show everyone what new titles you found.

The only problem with this, is that I have so many of these books that I keep piling them on my shelf leading to two problems: less shelf space and a 50% chance that I will actually pick up and read the book. This is getting close to another previous Top Tuesday topic that I did months ago called Books that I will Never Read, but these are books that have potential of being read eventually including reasons why I hadn’t read them yet.

The Book of Blood and Shadow by Robin Wasserman

I’ve actually had this book for more than a year but I haven’t found the right moment to read it yet. The story sounds really enticing so hopefully there will come a time, when I want to take a break from new releases and start with something different. 

Incarceron by Catherine Fisher

I bought this not too long ago so it’s not like I’ve forgotten it yet. I hadn’t known it was book one in a series as I honestly thought it was a stand-alone!

The Clockwork Scarab by Colleen Gleason

I got this for a bargain at Chapters Indigo and I heard it was a steampunk story in Victorian England introducing two ladies, both decedents of Sherlock Holmes and Mina Stoker (the female lead in Bram Stoker’s Dracula). This ended up as another surprise when I found out there was a series that finished recently.

The Abhorsen Chronicles by Garth Nix

One of the reasons I didn’t start this is because the volume is so darn heavy to lift! Back then I thought purchasing a volume of all three books was a practical choice than buying them separately, but if I’d known how ugly the cover was and how heavy it was to actually carry the darn thing, I would have gone and bought the books separately. The lesson here is sometimes the practical choice isn’t the best choice! 

The Strings of Murder by Oscar de Muriel

I admit I bought this because of the cover. It was a used book that I recently learned was released last year, and by then, I was looking for a good mystery title.

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

There are still many books by Gaiman that I haven’t read yet and this is one of them. Perhaps if I was in a weird, dark mood I might feel like reading this one.

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

One of my favorite authors, VE Schwab, recommended this on Twitter once, and I love her books so I trusted her instinct. I’ve heard a lot of good reviews and it also won an award so I’m definitely going to brush off the dust on this one when the time comes.

1984 by George Orwell

One of the classics that I’ve been meeting to get to someday and have been on my must-read classics forever now. 

The Monstruologist by Rick Yancey

I did not finish this book at all due to a mind numbing reading slump. I meant to start it but then something happened and I ended up not picking up where I left off. I’m hoping that will change when I reread this again. 

The Devil Wears Prada by Laurel Wessberger

This is actually on my list of books that I forgotten or left behind category. It’s my fault for putting it down on the bottom of my shelf in an empty corner somewhere so that I don’t even see it, but I’ll get to it someday when I’m in the mood for a good chick flick.
