Happy blogerversery to Hoot Reads Books!
This month has been pretty busy for me, and not just for my blog but I’ve been job hunting and attending interviews, so I’ve been under a lot of pressure lately. It’s because I’ve been so consumed with my job search that today, I admit that I almost forgot about my blog’s anniversary. But it’s a good thing I remembered to check what date it was or else I might have missed it completely!Read More »
There is only 3 more days before 2016 and as everyone is planning to celebrate the coming new year with parties and booze, I am reflecting my year in 2015. I admit that 2015 wasn’t a great year for me. I failed to obtain a permanent job and was unemployed all summer so I’m hoping 2016 will bring in new possibilities for me as I continue my job search, but the year also gave me the opportunity to spend time with my blog and reading many great (and not so great) books. I feel proud with the selection of titles I read this year that I narrowed down my selection of top books of 2015. Here’s to another great year in reading and finding a job too so I can continue buying more great books!Read More »
Guess what? On this day hoot reads books was born and has turned 3 years old today! This is so exciting! I can’t believe it has been three years since my blog was born, and to celebrate I re designed my blog with a brand new theme and (somewhat) new banner! I also re opened my Facebook page so I will be going back to working on that again. Recently I have been using Twitter and Instagram to promote my blog and posts, but now I am working on expanding that further by returning to Facebook and Pinterest. If you like my blog, I encourage you to follow me on my social media channels!
I also want to take this time to say a big THANK YOU to all my readers and followers who have supported and liked my blog! I will continue to come up with new postings ideas and topics to make it more engaging, but if you have any ideas please share them and I might consider it.
Thank you fellow readers for showing some love for hoot reads books! A toast to another year of reading and blogging!
Are you still having trouble completing a series? Do you have a pile of incomplete book series that you haven’t read yet? Summer is about to end so for those of you who are going back to school might want to use the free time you have now to finish those series right?
Well Brianna of Bookish Confessions has come up with an awesome idea of creating the feels readathon! For those who are new to a readathon (like myself) it is an event were you set goals for yourself to read as many books as you can in that time period. For example, you might say to yourself: “I’m going to finish reading 10 books in 1 week.” As a book blogger, I’ve come across different kinds of readathons but never have I participated in one that meets my needs. Until I met Brianna on Instagram and heard about her light-bulb idea that I wanted to share with you all!
So here’s the challenge. And yes there are rules or else this wouldn’t be much of a challenge to begin with! But the rules are simple. The feels readathon begins on August 10-17 and you can finish as many series as you can in that week. Brianna has come up with some challenges to make it fun like finish more than 3 series in a week, and try to make a word out of your TBR (to be read) pile using the first letter of a book title. She might also come up with other games like find a book that has a weapon in the story or something so more of that coming soon!. So get your series TBR out and join other booknerds in this exciting readathon as we enjoy the last month of summer! And don’t forget to spread the word.
I will definitely be participating in the feels readathon and before it starts, I’ll write a post on the series that I’ll be reading for that week. Cheers!
Hello good readers! If you’re reading this blog after the weekend, you must’ve noticed the brand new layout. As this month marks the 1 year anniversary of my bookish blog, I wanted to celebrate with something new. This has been on my to-do list for awhile since I’m been looking for ways to have social media […]
Dear good readers,
I have exciting news! You might have noticed that I have a new button on my side bar. That’s because today for the first time on my blog, hoot reads books is now on bloglovin.
Why? I’ve been following a lot of book bloggers and not all of them are on WordPress. I’ve learned about bloglovin from other bloggers I follow, and by signing up for an account can I follow them. This makes it easier for me so that I don’t have to visit each blog, instead I can sign in and *poof* any new posts show up on my newsfeed. And as a bonus I also added my blog on bloglovin so that readers can follow me on there too.
Are you on bloglovin too? If so, could you follow me? And if you have a blog I would love to see it! Let me know in the comments form!
Good readers, you may have noticed that I have been changing, editing, and moving things around in my blog. This is because I can’t make up mind of where things should be and what other things to add to make my blog look nicer. And sometimes I do a number of editing on my pages when I don’t like how the content is worded so I end up rewriting the entire thing until I’m satisfied. But now I can breathe a sigh of relief as all those changes and switcheroo’s are finally over! Here are some revisions I made on hoot reads:
On Twitter and Facebook:
If you look to your right you’ll notice I’ve added a Twitter feed as I LOVE to tweet all sorts of things from fun facts, news, and other articles that only book nerds are interested in. I follow a lot of people including other bloggers, readers, and publishers so often I share their stuff, as I’m the queen of retweeting! You’ll also notice that I have a Facebook page that I just made so it’s very new. I still haven’t settled on whether I should keep it but it’ll depend on how much attention it gets from my readers. I opened a page because for one obvious reason, everyone is on Facebook, and this is a great spot for me to share posts, photos, and blog updates. So if you’re on Facebook don’t forget to ‘like’ my page because it’s great and it’ll make me so happy to see that I have fans on there too!
On my About Page:
I don’t know how often my About Me page is read but if you’ve been checking back you’ll see that it’s been edited again. And again, and again, and again. I don’t know what it is about me but I find that writing a profile is one of the toughest writing assignments I had to do for this blog. At first I wasn’t sure how to write it as a formality or a fun Q&A but in the end I wrote a short, casual bio and I’m going to stick with it. So no more editing my profile page anymore. Whew.
On my Reviews:
I’ve also made slight arrangements to my Review Index as it’s now alphabetized by author. I hope you like it! So that’s it. Those are the changes to my blog that I’m making and I’m sticking with them, so no more revising, editing, and shifting things around anymore. But that’s only for the appearance of my blog. I’ve been thinking about new ideas to write about like Top Ten Tuesday or Top Picks of the Month or any fun entries to make this blog more enjoyable and relevant for my good readers. Because nothing makes me happier than knowing that my readers are having a good time here! And any big ideas that I’m sticking with will be announced for your convenience, my good readers.
I also like to thank all my readers and followers for visiting hoot reads! It’s because of you my good reader, that I’m making these changes and coming up with flashbulb ideas that I’m excited to bring forth. So once again thank you!
It’s Christmas and this will be my last post for the year. It was only 6 months ago that hootreads was launched and yet for me it feels like yesterday that I started this experience. I like to thank my good readers for reading, sharing, and following me and I can promise you, on my feathered wings that next year will be just as better. Since the grand opening of hootreads, I’ve reviewed 22 books and read a total of 31 books this year! Although I’m certain that I read more, not that I’m bragging but because I have a short-term owl memory, I tend to miss out adding other books I’ve read onto Goodreads.
I can’t explain why but it always feels overwhelming to look back on all the books I’ve read this year, like a sense of accomplishment but something better. There’s books I’ve love, books I’ve REALLY love and went to all the used bookstores to get a cheaper copy, than there are books that I disliked and vowed never to see the cover again. Either way, I had memorable moments readings all kinds of books, moments were I laughed, cried, chuckled, and smiled.
This was a great year for hootreads books and I’m looking forward to reviewing new books, reading new releases, and other hidden gems in 2014!
So Happy Hooolidays and have a safe New Year! I’ll see you in January 2014 good readers!
